Nautico: The Forms and Fashions of the Sea

For the 2019 Lunar Gala I designed Nautico: a line of 6 outfits which fused classic nautical garments and the natural forms of the ocean. The line imagined the process of making as one of growth — where the classic clothing of the sea has had it’s DNA spliced and blurred with that of the nature that so often surrounds it.

To create this biomimetic line I iterated and experimented for a number of months: testing dying, molding, texturing, and cutting techniques until I was satisfied with the result. The final garments were created from custom digital patterns. The patterns were cut on a laser cutter. Some fibers needed to be fused before laser cutting.
